As I mentioned earlier, my partner and I launched UNCForum.com this past week. Over the course of five days and an intense marketing campaign, we were able to get more than 300 users registered and using the forum. Here’s how we did it:
Saturday
Mike (my partner) and I met at a coffee shop Saturday afternoon to discuss our game plan and strategize the launch of a local, niche product in a closed community. I had just graduated and Mike is still a senior, so combined we have a lot of contacts within the campus community. On Saturday we decided that we should start off with our Facebook friends, inviting each one of them to an event they could either accept or decline. This way, our first pilot group would hopefully be people we knew rather than complete strangers, people who were more willing to post a topic or reply to a thread.

As you’ve probably noticed, I changed my WordPress theme yesterday after using the previous theme for a month or so. The new theme needs some more tweaking but I thought I’d release the older theme, dubbed BlogStandard, for anyone who wants a simple and effective theme that places focus on content. This theme is very SEO-friendly and will definitely make it easier for you to get more traffic.

I’m finally well-rested and ready for action after an intense week of publicity for my new project, UNCForum. It’s taken a lot of energy out of me and has limited my blogging abilities as well but hopefully I’ll be able to get back to this on a more regular schedule now that the main launch is pretty much over.

My partner Mike and I somewhat officially launched UNCForum.com yesterday. By launch I mean creating an invite on Facebook and sending it out to every single one of our Facebook friends (I had 1000+ myself, plus my partners). So far people are slowly trickling onto the site and we’re seeing some growth, but I think our real advertising campaign begins tomorrow at UNC’s Fall Fest.
