BlogStandard Theme

As you’ve probably noticed, I changed my WordPress theme yesterday after using the previous theme for a month or so.  The new theme needs some more tweaking but I thought I’d release the older theme, dubbed BlogStandard, for anyone who wants a simple and effective theme that places focus on content.  This theme is very SEO-friendly and will definitely make it easier for you to get more traffic.

This theme is very fast-loading and tries to utilize space effectively on the sidebar to give your viewers access to relevant content at all times.  The theme, however, does require a few plugins including:

Before you use the theme, make sure you have these plugins activated or remove the associated code from the sidebar.php and other files.

Customization

First of all, you can change any of the colors for this theme in the style.css file found in the main theme directory.  The exact wording of the title can be changed in the header.php file, but currently it’s set to have the blog name and description.  You can also change the way the main navigation links are displayed.  Right now, it’s fitted to display some set pages, however if you want to auto-generate this you can use the following code:

<ul><?php wp_list_pages('title_li='); ?></ul>

In the sidebar.php file, be sure to change the RSS subscription information and the twitter username to match your site - right now it’s set to the MONFX info by default to serve as an example when you first install.

My only request for using this theme is that you leave the link in the footer.  I’d love it if you could write a short review of it in your blog and link back, or just simply leave a comment on how it can be made better.  Leave a link to your site here if you do use it too!

Ad Space

There is a designated ad area in the sidebar where you can place two columns of 125×125px ads.  Just replace the adspace DIV with the links/images for the ads.  By default a link to your Advertise section is there.

I really like the theme but I found one problem - the names in the comments look a little weird in IE. Post an update when you get that fixed and I’ll be sure to check it out then!

    Great theme!
And thanks to add ‘out-of-the-box’ support for my plugin :)
